We provide you with the right training, job connections, and ongoing support you need to kickstart a meaningful, stable career in BC’s rapidly growing food sector.

What is a Food System?
When people think of food jobs, they usually just picture farming or working a grocery till. But the food system is an entire, interconnected world. It’s every single step involved in getting food from the earth to our plates—and finding smart ways to manage the aftermath.
Depending on your interests, this program can help you launch a career anywhere along the chain:
- Growing & Production – Getting hands-on with farming, community gardening, ranching, or coastal aquaculture.
- Making & Moving – Turning raw ingredients into products (like artisanal baking or commercial processing) and managing local supply chains and food hubs.
- Community & Access – Working directly with the public through grocery retail, local markets, food banks, and school meal initiatives.
- Sustainability & Waste – Leading the charge on climate-smart solutions like composting, food recovery, and reducing environmental impact.
- Advocacy & Leadership – Stepping into food justice, policy-making, and building resilient community networks.

This initiative is specifically designed to open doors for young people who face systemic barriers to employment.
You are eligible if you are:
- Between 16 and 30 years old
- Receiving Income Assistance or Disability Assistance
- Currently living in Vancouver or Prince George areas

About
Bridge to Future BC
B2FBC adapts a model of community-based learning and engagement into a paid employment format. Through cohorts of supported placements, wraparound services, and tailored job readiness training, the program will help youth build practical skills, confidence, and labour market attachment while contributing to healthier, more resilient local food systems.
By aligning income assistance employment pathways with food systems work, B2FBC integrates social, economic, and public health priorities—reducing poverty, closing labour market gaps, and cultivating youth leadership in community food resilience across the province.

Bridge to Future BC is a program of the Public Health Association of BC (PHABC) which is a voluntary, non-profit, non-government, member-driven organization that provides leadership to promote health, well-being, and social equity.
